Business Analyst: A journey I've been walking all along...
My Journey
Looking back, it's fascinating to see how my path to becoming a Business Analyst has been woven through a tapestry of diverse experiences. It's a testament to the fact that business analysis isn't just a role, it's a mindset – a way of approaching challenges, identifying opportunities, and driving improvement. And while I may officially be a Business Analyst now, the truth is, I've been one all along.
It all began in the bustling world of customer service, where I honed my communication and problem-solving skills as a Call Center Agent in the Philippines. This experience instilled in me the importance of active listening, empathy, and finding solutions that meet customer needs. Even then, I was analyzing customer interactions, identifying pain points, and using data, albeit anecdotal, to inform better service delivery.
My career then took me to Kuwait, where I meticulously managed documents as a Document Controller for Hyundai E & C. This role demanded a keen eye for detail, a systematic approach to organization, and the ability to identify and mitigate potential risks. I was analyzing workflows, ensuring compliance, and streamlining processes to improve efficiency—all essential skills for a successful Business Analyst.
Seeking new challenges, I ventured into the fast-paced world of food service in Singapore. As an Assistant Restaurant Manager at McDonald's and later a Restaurant Supervisor at Fish & Co., I was immersed in operational efficiency. I analyzed customer flow, optimized seating arrangements, and streamlined order fulfillment processes to enhance the customer experience and maximize profitability. These experiences taught me the importance of efficiency, clear communication, and creating a positive work environment. Essentially, I was conducting operational analysis and process improvement, even if I didn't have the formal title.
Returning to the Philippines, I delved back into the tech world as a Technical Support Specialist at Teletech. Here, my analytical skills were put to the test as I diagnosed technical issues, identified root causes, and developed solutions. This role reignited my passion for problem-solving and deepened my understanding of technology, which would prove invaluable in my later roles. I was gathering data, analyzing trends, and communicating effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences—all hallmarks of a skilled Business Analyst.
My journey then led me to Saudi Arabia, where I took on the challenge of training and developing teams as an Operations Field Trainer for Dunkin Donuts. In this role, I analyzed training needs, designed effective learning programs, and evaluated their impact. I was facilitating knowledge transfer, driving performance improvement, and ensuring alignment with organizational goals. This experience honed my leadership skills, ability to communicate effectively across cultures, and passion for fostering growth in others. During my tenure, I established a comprehensive training evaluation system that improved operational alignment across the country, created training centers in five regions, and developed the first comprehensive training manual to standardize and enhance employee development programs. I also spearheaded data-driven initiatives to optimize employee productivity, designed tailored development plans to address skill gaps, and collaborated with senior management on strategic planning and forecasting.
Then, I landed in the dynamic world of product management. As an Associate Product Manager for TD SYNNEX under the Concentrix umbrella company, I collaborated with cross-functional teams across the U.S., Canada, and the Philippines. This role broadened my understanding of the product development lifecycle, market analysis, and strategic planning. It was here that my analytical skills truly flourished as I learned and get hands on to gather and interpret data, identify market trends, and translate user needs into product requirements. I managed a vendor and achieved a revenue growth from 200,000 CAD to 1.5 million CAD by implementing effective product management strategies. I also led the management of other IT product lines and oversaw the Canadian team, expanding it from 3 to 7 members, and successfully managed security vendors, driving team performance and achieving an average monthly sales and revenue of 20 million CAD for the whole organization bringing in sales and revenue year after year.
Finally, I've come full circle, embracing my role as a Business Analyst at Barbeques Galore, working with MicroSourcing to support operations in Australia and the Philippines. I'm leveraging my diverse experiences and analytical mindset to optimize processes, improve efficiency, and enhance customer satisfaction. I'm excited to be part of a team that's passionate about delivering exceptional outdoor cooking experiences. In my current role, I developed an Excel-VBA-based reporting tool that reduced manual effort by 80% and significantly reduced logistics costs through workflow optimization, analysis, and recommendations.
